Chronic Illness: The Underlying Cause & How To Overcome  http://learntruehealth.com/chronic-illness

Chronic Illness is regarded as a progressive disease. While many aspects remain to be a mystery, there are definitive ways to cope with this condition.

Everyone's in for a special treat if you want to know more about chronic illness. Naturopathic Doctor Christine Schaffner can thoroughly educate us regarding this.

Dr. Schaffner loves to treat patients who have seen every doctor under the sun. These are patients who have a chronic illness and for some reason, they're not getting better. She loves to help them recover their health naturally through education, lifestyle change, and special testing.

It's pretty exciting because Dr. Schaffner got tricks up her sleeve that I've never seen other Naturopathic Doctors do. So uncovering the mystery behind chronic illness is going to be a lot of fun.

Runs In The Family

Dr. Schaffner grew up on the east coast, outside of Washington, D.C. Her father is an oncologist and her mother trained as a nurse but had a background in education. In addition to that, she was a hospital director so technically, Dr. Schaffner grew up in the world of medicine.

"We joke that one of my brother's first words was chemotherapy. Medicine was what I grew up around. With my father being an oncologist, I grew up on antibiotics and food was not even part of the paradigm at that point.," she said.

Finding Her Way

With Science as her favorite subject in high school, she had an inner knowing that medicine was most likely her calling. But despite that, she wanted something more.

"In high school during the 90s, the whole idea of 'mind, body, and spirit' was a new thought. Going through the spiritual section at bookstores then, always triggered more questions," she said.

Dr. Schaffner initially did not know Naturopathic Medicine existed until she met one of her mother's friends who had cancer. That friend sought out a lot of alternative medicine. She was also the one who exposed Dr. Schaffner to Bastyr University when she was in high school.

However, the idea of attending Bastyr University was initially put on the back burner. Dr. Schaffner went instead to the University of Virgina in Charlottesville. It took her a while to commit to pre-medicine and did not take up the course until her second year.

Enrolling in a Psychology course, she felt intimidated by the environment. "I made the decision during my last year to go to Bastyr in 2003. It was a stark contrast since my school on the East Coast was conventional whereas it was the opposite in Bastyr," Dr. Shaffner narrates.

She also shares that we were one of the younger people in the batch when she transferred to Bastyr. Hence, because she struggled a bit, Dr. Schaffner took two years off from school.

During these gap years, she naturally needed to work. Because she loved skin care and using her hands, she was able to acquire her aesthetic license. Eventually, she even moved to Aspen to explore other options.

Trusting The Timing

After working in the spa industry in Aspen, she went back to Bastyr with a renewed passion and love for Naturopathic Medicine. Answering an ad after graduation landed her a job as a resident for Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt in 2010.

Isn't it amazing how everything falls into place? Sometimes we just need to go with the flow and gain a learning curve.

The Sophia Health Institute in Woodinville, WA

Klinghardt and Schaffner founded the Sophia Health Institute in 2012. The clinic has become famous for treating chronic illness. I actually first heard of the clinic from my Naturopathic Doctor when we were talking about the geniuses in the holistic world.

Four Pillars of Treating Chronic Illness

To further illustrate, Dr. Klinghardt expounds on the four pillars of treating chronic illness:

  1. Balancing Physiology - hormones, electrolytes, and other related elements have to be balanced first.
  2. Detoxification - metabolic enzymes need to be detoxified first before starting treatment.
  3. Immune Modulation - measures must be done to regulate the various aspects of the immune system in order for it to function like it should.
  4. Decrease Pathogens and Increase Beneficial Bacteria - nurture the healthy tissues and decrease the bad bacteria.
  5. Especially relevant is that Dr, Klinghardt says treatment for chronic illness will be futile if these pillars are not addressed first.

Behind The Curtain

A wonderful thing about The Sophia Institute is that they really dig deep into the patient's medical history on chronic illness. Some things they provide treatment for include:

  1. Chronic infection / Lyme disease
  2. Environmental toxicity
  3. Diet
  4. 23andMe genetic testing
  5. Emotional issues
  6. Dental issues
  7. DNA Methylation

Why is someone better than the other person? Why are some people responding to treatment better than others? However, Dr. Schaffner says the bigger question is --- 'How do our genes react to our environment?'

"Nutrient deficiency affects our gene expression as well as the environment. Other doctors, on the other hand, believes our emotions affect it as well," says Schaffner. "This is a very complex and multi-faceted topic."

Success Stories

Everyone loves success stories. I believe a positive outlook translates to a positive reaction towards treatments. Dr. Shaffner shares there are indeed several patients who have made significant progress over time.

"There is a popular celebrity who has Lyme. She's made a lot of great strides with the work that we've done," Schaffner reveals. "I have a patient in her 20s who has worked with us for a few years. We got her to 80 to 85% well."

Stem Cell Therapy

Dr. Shaffner says Stem Cell Therapy is a controversial topic. Most noteworthy is that we have now more access to fat stem cells and bone marrow stem cells. As a result, there's a lot of progress made for recovering joints.

Treating Other Illnesses

It's really great to know that The Sophia Institute is very through when it comes to administering treatments. Because of this, patients with all kinds of illnesses have visited the clinic. Illnesses range from Hashimoto's, ALS, Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia, Hypothyroidism among many others.

However, Dr. Shaffner encourages, "If you're suffering out there, don't lose hope. There are so many things out there that are available right now also yet to be discovered. I really believe that anyone that I see has the potential to completely reverse their illness no matter what it's called."

Finally, it is important to find a doctor who is willing to work with you. Furthermore, an ideal doctor should be a team player on your team basically. And I can see Dr. Shaffner is definitely one of those people.

Dr. Schaffner also completed Dr. Robert Rowen's Oxidation Therapy Course, Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker's Biotoxin Illness Course, Advanced Classes in Biotherapeutic Drainage, Methylation seminars with Dr. Paul Anderson and Dr. Ben Lynch, and attended Medicine Week 2012 & 2013 in Baden-Baden, Germany.

It was shocking to hear that Dr. Brooke sees women get put immediately on hormone replacement by their MDs (bioidentical or otherwise) without more thought given to the cause of their hormonal imbalance.

The 5 Healthy Rules Every Woman Should Live By

Brooke is most passionate about two things: giving women options and helping them do what works for them in a loving, healthy way. So, her #1 advice for anyone with these issues is to follow her 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 rule:

5.) Take 5 walks a week
4.) Eat 4 meals a day (helps balance blood sugar and lower stress)
3.) Strength training 3 times a week within your ability
2.) Drink twice as much water

How's stem cell therapy done? Did you know that after the age of 20, your stem cell population drop off so considerably; that by the time you're 50's and up, you have virtually no stem cell at all?

Dr. Dennis Courtney has a passion for teaching and informing. He is excited to help people learn the truth about their health options and "lose their vulnerability" to stem cell misinformation.

According to Dennis, every single one of us has stem cells in our bodies. There are over 600 stem cell clinics in the USA and about 99.9% of these clinics use autologous stem cells. There are three body fluids that are used to be the donor source for the autologous cell.

JJ Virgin is coming out with her new book, The Miracle Mindset on February 21st. What led her to create this book was during the time when she was in the middle of her very first book, The Virgin Diet.   It was a couple of weeks out before the book was getting published and her PBS TV show was getting ready to launch.

Grant's Accident

She went all in for the book because she knew it could help a lot of people. One night in 2012, after a long day of taping videos, her 16-year-old son Grant, who has a bipolar disorder, had a bad day and threw a tantrum because they did not allow him to go to a martial arts class that night.

As Grant stomped out of the house barefoot and got hit by a car crossing the street. It was actually a hit and run. A neighbor came around to protect him but the estimate was the female driver was going 40 miles an hour. They airlifted Grant to the hospital and he was barely alive.

Initial Diagnosis

"They had a tube in his brain to relieve pressure, and they had him on a ventilator. He literally had a bone sticking out of his leg. The doctor said he had a torn aorta and that kills 90% of the people right on the scene," recalls JJ Virgin.

Virgin says the aorta was hanging on by an onion skin.  It had to be repaired.  But the challenge was, Grant had three brain bleeds. He had multiple skull fractures and he was in a deep coma. But he still had brain activity which was the key thing.

The Decision

The surgery that he needed was very specialized.  Very few doctors do it. His attending physician then said Grant needed to be airlifted but because of his condition, the doctor said her son would never survive it. And even if he did, the doctor was doubtful if he would survive the surgery. He would be so brain-damaged, it wouldn't be worth it.

"My other son Bryce, who's 15, was listening and asked the doctor---'So like a .25% chance he'll make it?' And the doctor affirmed it. Then Bryce said, 'We'll take those odds,'" said JJ Virgin.

The doctor was so upset with them, seeing that they were going to overrule him. And I bluntly told the doctor my son was going to die if we don't take the chance.

Receiving Treatment At UCLA

"Eventually, Grant was airlifted to the UCLA trauma center while the rest of us drove there. A doctor there came up to me before Grant's surgery and assured me everything will be fine," said JJ Virgin.

After his surgery, Grant was in a deep coma we met up with the neurosurgeons. The only thing I could touch was his hand. Everything else was covered with gauze, casts and all sorts of stuff.

Communicating With Grant

JJ Virgin tried talking to Grant, "I looked at him and I said something but no response. Then I said his brother Bryce loves him very much. And he squeezed my hand. So at that point, I knew he was in there."

After testing Grant by rattling off names that she knew he wouldn't respond to, she tried to dig deeper by giving him a little pep talk. His recovery was bleak at that point but from that time on, JJ Virgin didn't allow anyone to say anything negative about him.

"When he got well, Grant said to me that when he was in the ICU in a coma, the gray man asked me if I wanted to live or die. He said he talked to his grandfather and it was really nice 'over there'. He said he really did not want to live but he kept hearing my voice and thinking about family so he decided to stay," said JJ Virgin.

Key Brain Nutrients That Helped Grant's Recovery:

JJ's Gameplan

These were what Virgin did to make sure she was in tip top shape throughout Grant's recovery. She said made sure to do the following apart from maintaining a daily gratitude journal:

  1. Put yourself first. You develop the habits now because they create a structure that gives you total freedom.
  2. Eat right. Have healthy food within reach.
  3. Exercise whenever you can.
  4. Get 8 hours of sleep.
  5. Take supplements.

The Right Mindset

Later on, she realized it all came down to our mindset. No one can take you farther than you believe you should go. We don't grow when things are easy.  We grow when we're challenged.

What an amazing story, right? When we do not want to be a statistic, we have to go against the status quo. During the times we decide we're not good enough, we're not going to seek out anything that goes against that belief. I'm glad this story has a happy ending because Grant has 110% fully recovered four years later.

In addition to that, Virgin also says as the brain starts to wake up and starts to remember things, the memories we remember first are the bad ones. It turns out that's what your brain does to protect you.

"I believe you get what you expect. If every day you realize that when you lean in to fear, it's eventually not too scary anymore because our comfort zone expands," said Virgin. "It all comes down to knowing you deserve it. You're here to do big things and not here to play it safe. Reach more people, do bigger things, help more people."

"Why Are We Treated Better At Starbucks Than We Are At Our Doctor's Office?"

Joshua Rosenthal MScED is the founder and director of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, an online higher education school where students are trained as Health Coaches and receive the holistic nutrition education and business skills to go out into the world and make a contribution to the health and happiness of everyone.

Founded by Rosenthal in 1992, the Institute for Integrative Nutrition has grown from a small classroom of passionate individuals to a global community of over 100,000 students and graduates in more than 120 countries worldwide.

His revolutionary approach introduces a wide variety of dietary theories – from Eastern to Western, ancient to modern and everything in between. He identified that the food on your plate is secondary to healthy relationships, regular physical activity, a fulfilling career, and a spiritual practice – all of which can fill your soul and satisfy your hunger for life.

Joshua is a highly sensitive healer with a Masters of Science degree in education and 30 years in the fields of whole foods, personal coaching, and teaching.

How I Started

Six months ago, I interviewed a graduate of IIN. I never heard of the institution before then. But he impressed me so much that I looked into the school after our interview.  Consequently, I called the school and enrolled right away.

I've been involved in their program for about six months now. I highly recommend it for anyone who is interested in joining the Holistic Health field. It is also exciting for anyone who simply wants their own health back.

I want to turn this ripple into a tidal wave. Let's help as many people as possible. Help others gain their health back naturally.

For listeners who don't know, I started the podcast about a year ago and have had such an amazing response. We stayed #1 in iTunes under the Health section. I've interviewed some Health Coaches and I really didn't know anything about Health Coaching. However, I do know a lot about Naturopathic Medicine because that is my passion and Holistic Medicine as well.

Getting To Know Joshua Rosenthal

It's really scary that what Joshua Rosenthal wrote on his website that only 3% of our health care dollars are spent on prevention disease. It's madness what's going on.

"I started like anyone. Going to school and wondering what's going on in the world. They were teaching us one thing in class. But then outside of classes a whole different world," said Joshua Rosenthal. "I knew there had to be something more."

Then in college, Joshua Rosenthal studied Psychology and he was still searching. Eventually, he got a Master's Degree and he said one of his professors mentioned something about the food changes everything. And you have to ask patients what they eat.

"I thought, how crazy is that? To have all these education and no one ever talked about food," said Joshua Rosenthal.

So he started using his food background but emphasizing the food part. And creating much faster results for people than spending years in therapy.

He also went to India 10 times. Because he was really curious what the ancient cultures said about wisdom. Then another time, he was living at a yoga center in the United States.  There, he was interested in the connection between yoga and Ayurveda, and Tantra among others. Hence, that affected him deeply.

Bio-Individuality And Primary Food

"It's really a matter of taking your health into your own hands and finding what works for you. That's what I call 'Bio-Individuality'. One person's food is another person's poison," he says.

Rosenthal also says being skinny doesn't mean you're healthy and it doesn't mean you're happy. There are some people who eat perfectly but they're not happy. What feeds you isn't just food. The things that make us happy is actually loving relationship. In addition to that, it feeds our heart and soul. That's what Rosenthal describes as our 'Primary Food'.

I truly agree with that. When we find joy in what we do, it becomes our Primary Food. Food becomes secondary. When we are unhappy, it leads us to disease and food will not counteract that level of stress.

Starting The Institute For Integrated Nutrition

Joshua Rosenthal was actually in Toronto when he started it in 1992. He was trying to bring in some teachers for occasional classes.

One day when he was in New York, he realized he could express his thoughts better if he did it himself.  Starting from a small basement in Broadway, his student body grew over time when he offered more Health Coaching classes and cooking classes.

First of all, What is unique is that IIN is university-affiliated and they have famous personalities as the mentors. Students can use their credits towards a Bachelor's Degree or a Master's Degree.

Institute for Intergrative Nutrition is the largest health coaching program in the world. They currently have around 100,000 students and graduates in over 120 countries worldwide.

It took 20 years but he finds joy knowing he has helped and is still helping people lead a holistic life. Furthermore, he is also proud that there are numerous famous students in IIN who went on to become famous personalities.

I love college.  I went to the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy.  My first career was massage therapy. I loved everything I learned but IIN has a unique learning process for you to actually integrate what you learn.

Clients Of An IIN Graduate

Most of the students are women. Joshua Rosenthal loves giving women the opportunity to be at home with their kids.  It allows them to earn more money per hour and help people with their health.

So the classes include learning how to market themselves through social media. The are also modules on how to write a book.

Working With A Health Coach

He describes it like having a personal trainer. Like a personal trainer, a Health Coach makes sure you get most out of the time you spend.  They teach you how not to injure yourself.

He says these are basically the things a Health Coach would ask:

  1. What are you doing with for health?
  2. What are the three things you're doing that you shouldn't be doing?
  3. What are your main health concerns?
  4. How long has it been that way?
  5. How much longer do you want it to stay that way?
  6. How long do you want to tolerate this?
  7. Would you be open to moving this to a greater priority?

Health Coaches do not treat diseases.  Rosenthal says there is only one disease --- Human Imbalance. And Health Coaches try to fix that. Typically, working with a Health Coach is a 6 months program. It's a tried and true process.

I love that we initially thought that we're setting out to become a Health Coach at IIN. And then we realize we become part of the mission to change the world. If we can create this ripple effect, we could have that tipping point that enough of us can help people.

Steps On How To Be Happy

  1. Close eyes and take a deep breath. Realize that in this moment everything is perfectly wonderful.
  2. Make sure your body is hydrated because cravings are based on dehydration.
  3. Take off the computer and connect more to people on a more personal level.
  4. Follow your heart.
  5. Follow your dream. Go for it.

Emotional Eating VS. Mindful Eating

Lisa's personal struggle with emotional eating started when she left her home and headed off to college. The absence of a family to watch her eating habits led to uncontrollable eating and quick weight gain. Lisa had gone on and off in trying different crazy food diets, and up and down in keeping the same weight.

Razi Berry: Matters of the Heart

Happy Valentine's Day! Whether you love Valentine's Day or not, I just want to start by saying I love all of you, my listeners. Words cannot express how happy I am to be here with another guest that I love, Razi Berry, my soul sister.

Journal of Naturopathic Doctor News & Review

Razi is actually a bigger fan of Naturopathic Medicine than I am. Razi Berry founded the Journal of Naturopathic Doctor News & Review. When I heard about that, I went to Dr. Megan Saunders who most of you know because of my past interview with her. Dr. Saunders apparently has heard of the Journal and affirmed it as a very well-respected Naturopathic Journal.

Razi Berry says only Naturopaths are allowed to contribute to the Journal. I'll be providing the link to the journal below this blog post. She also realized that a lot of people reading it are also laymen, not doctors like you and me who want to learn more about Naturopaths. Because of this, she created another website (link is below this blogpost) with articles about Naturopathic Medicine.

And because it is Valentine's Day, we're going to talk about the events that you are going to be signing up for. It's free and Razi Berry has gathered the top experts from around the world for the 8-day online event. Heart Failure at 14 Years Old

"For many of us it's a journey. My journey started when I was 14 years old. I was dying in the hospital with heart failure. It was due to a complication of an eating disorder," shares Razi Berry.

Razi Jerry further narrates, the culture was different back then.  She remembers the hospital staff had a disdain for my case. They made it sound like it was my fault. Hence, I had a feeling of shame.

"It was so bad that my family brought in a Catholic priest to administer the last rites. Shortly after that, my mom brought in my then 4-year-old brother to say goodbye. I remember my out of body experience and the feeling of suddenly surrounded by the feeling of overwhelming love," recalls Razi.

She said that although the experience was hard to describe in detail, she instantly healed. Eventually, Razi Berry left the hospital on zero medications.

"I did become much more sensitive to that intuitive center of our heart. From such a young age I came to understand this concept that we call 'mind, body, medicine'. That our heart, mind, spiritual self and body really aren't separate," Berry said.

From then on, Razi Berry grew up constantly searching for that experience again. Hence, she got really immersed in religion. That was just one piece of her healing journey.

Razi's Diagnosis

"In my mid-20s, I was a real estate agent and making good money. An then I crashed and burned. No doctor could offer any help. I even went to the Mayo Clinic," said Berry.

Later on, Razi Berry eventually found out she had Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue. But she refused to take some of the medicines for her illness because it was so strong.

A psychiatrist was then referred to her who said her illness was just in her mind. Another one told her she should just go on disability.  That terrified Berry.

Finding A Naturopathic Doctor

After that, she went to a Naturopathic Doctor but it was the turning point. Berry said that doctor really took time to know everything she felt. She also said felt her doctor was really putting pieces together on what was happening to her body.

"She thought of testing me for solvents. I also went through detoxification and elimination diet and eventually got better," said Berry.

When I lost my parents, I felt my heart was breaking in two. My father in particular, died of heart failure. I almost was hospitalized because of the grief. It's amazing how an emotional event can stimulate this cascade of physical response to events.

A Baby Is Born

"Then I got married but I had 5 miscarriages in 6 years. We couldn't figure out what was wrong. I refused conventional methods to conceive. So to keep my mind on something else, I thought of coming out with the Journal of Naturopathic Doctor News & Review," said Berry.

Shortly after that, she resolved to quit her old job and focus on building up her Journal.  That's when Berry finally became pregnant. Twenty months later, she was pregnant with her second daughter.

I also love that Razi Berry even chose to homeschool her two daughters. I have a 22-month-old son but we don't do daycare. My husband and I basically juggle our son. We really do take our time to teach him at his level.

"It just works better when you work from home. That way, I can work and then juggle it with homeschooling the kids. I don't think it's for everyone," Berry said.

Shedding the Old Belief

We have to shed the old belief system. Stop seeing the world in black and white. I'm not saying vaccines are bad. Rather I encourage people to see the facts surrounding Naturopathic Medicine.

The Natural Path is a beautiful resource of Naturopathic Doctors. They share ways to heal and ways to prevent different diseases using principles of Naturopathic Medicine.

The Heart Revolution

"My journey began with my heart. Heart disease is the leading cause of death of men and women," said Berry.

I can so relate to Berry's passion. I was 22 years old when I lost my mom and 28 years old when I lost my dad.

My mom died in her 50's and my dad died in his early 60's. He died of a broken heart. I use that as my fuel to do what I do because I want to help people save their parents and themselves, too.

Research shows that the heart transmits information to the whole body and to our brains. So when we say somebody dies of grief, broken heart or loneliness, we're not being poetic. And that is the reason for The Heart Revolution.

Berry said, "There's more to heart disease than fats, oil, cholesterol and pumping blood to your body. We have doctors in The Heart Revolution who can educate you on heart disease."

"If we just learn to take care of our bodies, connect with nature and really live inside our bodies, feel our emotions, that's where healings really happen," adds Berry.

Emotional Freedom Technique And Its Benefits  http://learntruehealth.com/emotional-freedom-technique

Emotional Freedom Technique includes acupressure in addition to elements of cognitive and exposure therapy. Seventy-two genes were significantly regulated.

Emotional Freedom Techniques Research 

I'm so excited to have award-winning author Dawson Church today to discuss the link between emotions and genetics. Emotional Freedom Techniques for posttraumatic stress disorder or PTSD are two studies Church conducted. They demonstrated highly significant results despite a small sample size, indicating a robust treatment effect.

Scientific Research Regarding the Benefits of EFT, Epigenetics, Gene Expression and More

Church says that there is a new science breakthrough. There is gene shifting expressing in new ways when we meditate or release emotions. We can see the body healing after we do these practices.

"When we experience a bad thing and we're 25 years old, we have coping abilities. At 2 or 4 years old, traumas are laid out in the brain as ideas and experiences," Church explains. "They're laid down neurologically as wiring in parts of the brain that has to do with memory and learning."

What exactly is Emotional Freedom Techniques?

Church says Emotional Freedom Techniques is a combination of some very old and well-studied psychotherapy techniques. EFT is a powerful self-help method based on research showing that emotional trauma contributes greatly to disease.

EFT tapping can reduce the emotional impact of memories and incidents that trigger emotional distress. Once the distress is reduced or removed, the body can often rebalance itself, and accelerate healing.

"EFT uses elements of Cognitive Therapy and Exposure Therapy. Combined with Acupressure, it taps on 12 acupuncture points," explains Church. "Research has proved that EFT is effective for phobias, anxiety, depression, posttraumatic stress disorder, pain, and other problems."

Proven Results

I'm so moved with the results of Church's treatment. I hear these stories and testimonials of healing and I can't help but cry tears of joy. It's so amazing.

"When we test people six months later or a year later, we find that all the psychological stress is gone. And Emotional Freedom Techniques breaks the associations," says Church.

I love the fact that we can take our health into our own hands. And that we can heal wounds from the past. What I love about EFT is that it is being able to utilize the body to let it go. Because we store negative emotions in the body.

Bias About Emotional Freedom Techniques

Personally, I had a bias against EFT. Because I'm a health nut, I'm very into everything holistic. I started to believe it only when I had a friend who came back from EFT training.

My friend asked me if I was upset with anyone and I did admit I felt anger towards someone for two years. I received treatment from my friend and shortly after, I felt the entire thing shift. It felt like a Novocane had taken over. I felt a numbness where the anger used to be. Eventually, I stopped thinking about that person altogether.

Needless to say, my whole perception of EFT changed after my personal experience.

The Genie in Your Genes

Another intriguing fact is Church's claim that genes express differently.  There are so many components in gene expression and Church expounds on that in his book, The Genie in your Genes.

Church says, " Your genes respond to your thoughts, emotions, and beliefs. The way you use your mind shapes your brain, turning genes on and off in ways that can dramatically affect your health and well-being."

The book also reveals the exciting applications of the new science of Epigenetics to healing. Citing hundreds of scientific studies, Church shows how you can apply these discoveries in your own life.

He explains how electromagnetic energy flows in your body and affects your cells. Church shows how your hormonal, neurological, connective tissue, and neurotransmitter systems all work in harmony to conduct a coordinated flow of information throughout your body.

Furthermore, he says as you take conscious control of the process, you produce a positive effect on your health, becoming an "epigenetic engineer" of your own wellbeing. 

EFT Manual

This is another book that Church wrote.  A chunk of the book is devoted to testimonials of people who have benefitted from EFT.

Church says this manual is based on Clinical EFT, the only version of EFT to be validated in dozens of scientific studies. Step by step, you will learn the "evidence-based" form of EFT used in those studies.

This book shows you how to use Clinical EFT fo a variety of common conditions, including pain, fears, addictions and cravings, weight issues, insomnia, and guilt. With the healing keys of EFT, you'll be surprised at how many problems that hold you back can be quickly and easily relieved, opening up new possibilities for your life.

EFT On Children with Emotional Issues 

Church has a cute story to share. This is about a mother from Brazil who has a 6-year-old autistic son. Apparently, she tried various treatments.  She learned about EFT and tried it on her son.

Eventually, all the symptoms seemingly went away.  When they moved to a new city, they went to a new doctor thinking her son was still autistic.

Lo and behold, she got a big surprise. That doctor shooed her away, apparently declaring that her son was not autistic. Hence, was baffled as to why they came to him in the first place. 

Veterans Stress Project 

Church is likewise involved in the Veterans Stress Project. Under the project, rehabilitation efforts are administered to veterans suffering from PTSD. They offer returning vets free or low-cost sessions using Energy Psychology.

What Church is doing is truly inspiring. I'm excited to see how far his journey will go and how many more people can benefit from his work.

What Are The Health Risks of Gluten? http://learntruehealth.com/food-allergy-symptoms

For most of her life, Ginger Hudock has suffered from food allergy symptoms without even knowing it. She continued eating standard American diet - meat, fat, sugar and dairy, processed and refined foods. Ginger was totally clueless about proper nutrition!

In 2007, Ginger started getting sick with headaches and intestinal pains chronically for one entire year! So, she went back and forth to see her physician for a few times, but only prescribed nothing other than drugs to masked the symptoms. Not until one doctor finally advised her to try eliminating gluten and dairy products from her food intake. Surprisingly, after a few days, Ginger was 80% better! Then,  after running serious of tests and reactivities for food allergy, it was found out that Ginger was indeed gluten intolerant.

"Almost ten years ago, I began having daily headaches and abdominal pains. Finally, after crying my eyes out more than once, I eliminating wheat to see if that made a difference. Bingo! I was severely allergic to gluten products. Since then I have discovered additional food sensitivities and allergies. When my friends and acquaintances learn about this, the most common response is "I could never give up bread!". That would most likely have been my response as well, before starting this ten-year journey. However, I have been shown many blessings as a result of this "hardship" including my new career helping others." --Ginger Hudock

My guest today is the acknowledged pioneer in the emerging field of Vocal Profiling using BioAcoustic Biology.

Sharry Edwards, MEd (Ohio University) has been accused of being too scientific by some and too esoteric by others. In actuality, Sharry Edwards is a bridge between both fields.

Food Sensitivity Testing : Finding the Right Laboratory  

Food sensitivity testing is not something that any laboratory can do. Accurate results are achieved when food sensitivity testing procedures are up-to-date.  

I recently went to Bastyr University, the Naturopathic school here just outside of Seattle, Washington. They're holding a continuing education conference and my Naturopathic friends here told me that I should show up and see if I could interview some interesting people and I did. 

I also got to interview two of the labs. First of all, I found their services are fascinating. Most noteworthy is their food sensitivity testing.   

Great Plains Laboratory  

I met Katlyn from Great Plains Laboratory.  It is the only lab in the United States that does glyphosate testing at a very affordable rate. According to Katlyn, they are based in Kansas and the lab has been around since 1996.   

The lab director of Great Plains Laboratory is Dr. William Shaw. Dr. Shaw is board certified in the fields of clinical chemistry and toxicology by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry. Glyphosate testing is also his passion.  This testing can be performed with a simple urine test. They also do other treatments to help get glyphosate out of your body.   

Why Get Glyphosate Testing?  

The Great Plains Laboratory website states that medical reports show many chronic health problems are caused by glyphosate exposure. Consequestly, it can enter the body by direct absorption through the skin.  In addition to that, it can also enter the body by eating foods treated with glyphosate or drinking water contaminated with glyphosate.  

"Glyphosate is a ticking time bomb in your body. There are too many chronic conditions. We see high co-relations with autism and different cancers as well," says Katlyn.  

Hence, Katlyn says it's important to measure where you are so that you can take the protocols to get it out of your body.   

Tips On How To Lower Glyphosate Levels  

  1. Switch to organic foods.  
  2. Make sure you're doing reverse osmosis for water to help get some of those glyphosate out.  
  3. There are also supplements to help excrete this from your body.  

Katlyn also says infrared sauna therapy is a way to detoxify it. It helps to sweat it out. One thing people need to remember is that when they are sweating out these toxins, they need to wipe it off with a towel frequently so it doesn't re-absorb back into their bodies.   

She also suggests that we should take control of our own health. In a addition to that, Katlyn stresses the importance of food sensitivity testing especially for glyphosate. This is so that we you can have a starting point to go where you need to go.    

And I agree. Consequently, what is measured is manageable. If we don't know what our levels are, then how can we get back on the road to good health.  

Common Symptoms Of Overexposure To Toxins  

  1. Headaches 
  2. Chronic fatigue 
  3. Gut issues  

Many patients of Great Plains Laboratory come to them on their last limb. They usually can't figure out what's going on. Hence, the lab looks at these areas that are not typically evaluated. So when they do find it, the patient goes through the treatment and symptoms have improved significantly.  

Meridian Valley Lab  

I also came across the Meridian Valley Lab who does several kinds of food sensitivity testing aside from glyphosate testing.   

According to their website, Harvard University and University of Michigan graduate, Dr. Jonathan Wright is Meridian Valley Lab's medical director.  Dr. Wright is an expert in research and application of natural treatments for healthy aging and illness. Furthermore, he also was the first to develop and introduce the use of comprehensive patterns of bio-identical hormones. This includes estrogens, progesterone, DHEA, and testosterone.  

The lab is a world leader in Allergy and Hormone Testing. In addition to food sensitivity testing, they also specialize in Comprehensive 24-Hour Urine Hormone and Metabolite Testing.  

Furthermore, established in 1976, Meridian Valley was the first lab in the USA to offer this test to help doctors use Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy safely and effectively.   

In the area of food sensitivity testing, they are the first lab in the United States to do the ELISA method, which is now the most used method of labs in the country.  

ELISA Method  

ELISA stands for enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. It is a type of food sensitivity testing that detects and measures antibodies in your blood.  

This food sensitivity test can be used to determine if you have antibodies related to certain infectious conditions. Antibodies are proteins that your body produces in response to harmful substances called antigens.  

The Meridien Valley Lab can test up to 190 foods for allergies and food sensitivity. While other labs only average around 150 foods.

In this episode, I travel to Bastyr University (a prominent Naturopathic Medical College) to interview Thyroid expert Dr. Denis Wilson.

In our interview, Dr. Denis Wilson discusses how there are two different thyroid problems. You can have a thyroid, the gland, the noun, problem or you can have a thyroid adjective problem. Meaning the function of the thyroid hormone is not being utilized correctly by the cells in the body which leads to a low metabolic rate and a low body temperature.

Dr. Denis Wilson says, "If you are on thyroid medication you do not have to be on it for the rest of your life!"

He discusses how traditional MDs will have their patient on T4 for life when that does not help the body heal or address the root issue that caused the low thyroid in the first place.

He also sees a lot of people who suffer from all of the symptoms of low thyroid function because their cells are not utilizing thyroid and yet on a blood test they appear to be normal.

An indication, he shares, is low body temperature. Anything below 98F is a body temp that can point to having low thyroid function.

In our interview, Dr. Wilson gives an action plan for healing your thyroid. If you have hypothyroid, meaning low thyroid function, Dr. Denis Wilson recommends that you do the following:

1. Avoid stress
2. Declutter and simplify your life
3.  Create a regular active relaxation routine
4. Eat organic food
5. Avoid gluten (barley, wheat, rye and oats)
6.  Do high-intensity interval exercise on a regular basis / get your heart rate up
7. Take high-quality supplements that include iodine, zinc, and selenium.
8. Take herbs that support thyroid function such as Guggul Myrrh, Blue Flag Root.
9. Sometimes those with low thyroid function also need adrenal support. Taking herbs that support adrenal function like ashwagandha, eleutherococcus, rhodiola, holy basil.

Dr. Wilson says that after first trying everything on the above list if you still have low thyroid function he says you may temporarily need T3 therapy.

He goes on to describe an fascinating process where he uses a combination of natural medicine along with T3 to reset the body. He describes it as "resetting the thyroid pathways in all the cells of the body."  Dr. Wilson discovered that sometimes the issue isn't the thyroid but the receptors in the body that can be reset.

Dr. Wilson successfully works with patients to get their thyroid functioning healthfully again and get them off their medication!

Dr. Wilson shared that after beginning, this protocol patients notice a difference from a few hours to a few days or weeks. On Dr. Wilson's protocol, you should see a difference within a few weeks.

For those with Hashimoto's thyroiditis Dr. Wilson shares that there is great hope! He has helped them to heal using natural medicine and said that sometimes he had seen full recoveries.

For healing your thyroid when it comes to hyperthyroidism, Dr. Wilson says that herbal support is the first thing you should do. There are herbs that will help to balance your thyroid.

Natural Chronic Pain Relief - Dr Joe Tatta

Chronic Pain Relief Using Neuro Science

Hello, True Health Seekers! I'm thrilled to bring you this guest today. He will show us how to utilize the power of your mind and the latest in NeuroScience. So that you can end chronic pain and get some advice on chronic pain relief.

It is possible to help people stop using pharmaceutical drugs when there are natural alternatives in chronic pain relief that have so much science behind them. Dr. Joe Tatta helps patients achieve chronic pain relief without the need for drugs.

Tatta has an incredible understanding of the science of the brain. Furthermore, he will also teach us how we can re-write the programming in our mind so that chronic pain is a thing of the past.

His Inspiration

"I'm 44, my mom used to be a night shift nurse during the 80s at this place for adolescents with cancer," Tatta said. "She did that for about five years, and I was eight years old. I watched her from being healthy to being sick. That's why she retired."

In addition to that, Tatta says his mom was an inspiration why he wanted to be a doctor. He wanted to be in physical therapy to help people in pain.

Myths Of Chronic Pain

Tatta says there are a lot of myths around chronic pain. Furthermore, a lot of our thoughts about pain are handed down from generations. He says chronic pain is defined as pains that persist for longer than four months.

Among the perceptions of chronic pain are:

  1. The only way to solve pain is through medication or surgery.
  2. Pain is only felt if it is a physical injury.
  3. Movement is wonderful for alleviating pain.
  4. Persistent pain can't be healed.

"Language, the things we say, the phrases we hear and influence your pain experience," says Tatta. "Or can affect how much pain you're having. Both intensity as well as duration."

Cause Of Chronic Pain

Tatta explains that when your brain perceives danger, it will cause pain as an output. It is a way to motivate you to change your behavior. Hence, to do something to get out of that pain or get chronic pain relief. What happens in our nervous system is that sometimes we are not sure why this happens to some people and not others.

Furthermore, Tatta says, sometimes chronic pain is caused by emotional trauma. The knowledge of what pain is and what pain isn't is often the first step.

"Movement sends a signal to the brain that you're safe and that movement doesn't cause you harm," said Tatta. "It tends to open the natural endorphins and re-pattern some of those neuro pathways that may have developed from pain turning chronic."

Ways To Address Chronic Pain

Tatta says, for patients who have the worse type of pain, he uses a chronic pain relief called motor imagery. "We teach people how to move in their mind first before they move in real life," he said.

Then there's something in your brain called mirror neurons. Tatta says mirror neurons turn on when you watch someone do an activity.

"We can leverage that ability in your brain. You can turn on pain. Because your brain is not ready for it yet," explains Tatta. "Graded movement means you grade yourself in your mind the same you would do it as if  you were moving."

Bottomline, Tatta said motor imagery and mirror neurons in your brain should be graded and dosed just like actual physical activity in your life.

Inflammation And Chronic Pain

Tatta reveals that about 50 million people have an autoimmune condition. It is an inflammatory condition. But often it begins in the gut, like a leaky gut. And when you have a leaky gut, you have undigested food proteins, bacteria or viruses.

Fungus or mold can get into your system. Or through the digestive system and cause stomach inflammation throughout your entire body. Consequently, these signs and symptoms start to overlap in patients with chronic pain.

In addition to that, Tatta says that anytime your nervous system is in this hyper-vigilant state, you get changes all over your body. Hence, the gut probably the one place you see most frequently.

"Patients with chronic pain often feel sad or depressed. Furthermore, often they will receive selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or SSRI," said Tatta. "When we can help modulate serotonin naturally."

Steps To Chronic Pain Relief

Tatta gives these steps to stop pain:

  1. Acknowledge we can move.
  2. Imagine doing a movement, push your mind then do physically
  3. Take out three foods from your diet for three weeks - gluten, dairy and sugar for
  4. Do relaxation exercises
  5. Be part of a support group

And also to have a paradigm pain shift. In addition to that, he aims to change the way we treat chronic pain by using natural strategies.

My guest today is a fantastic example of someone in the holistic health field who is living her passion! I like to call her Controversial Kristi!  While everyone in the mainstream was promoting low-fat diets she was telling us to eat lard and avoid kale!  You need to listen to this interview to truly appreciate her sound advice for better health and more energy!

"I graduated with my BSNU in holistic nutrition and have certificates in completing a certain amount of hours training in Advanced Clinical Nutrition Response Testing."

Kristi Acuña was born with a severe case of psoriasis – an autoimmune disease that causes red, patchy skin from head to toe. Her childhood was filled with frequent visits to pediatricians, dermatologists, and alternative health care practitioners to help cure – or at least control – her psoriasis. Each doctor visit became one disappointment after another, as all the medical professionals focused on treating her symptoms rather than getting to the root cause of the problem – what she was putting into her body. Consequently, all attempts failed.

After years of dealing with this unsightly and often painful disease, combined with taunting from her peers and classmates, Kristi’s self-esteem plummeted. Embarrassed and frustrated, Kristi wondered if she’d ever have a normal life.

When Kristi was 19 years old, her mother, a Registered Nurse for 27 years, studied to become a Traditional Naturopath. She was able to uncover the root cause of Kristi’s psoriasis and introduced her to a line of whole food supplements called Standard Process. The supplements and her new individualized nutrition plan cleared the psoriasis and gave Kristi a level of confidence she had never before experienced.

Holistic Nutrition gave Kristi back her LIFE.

Fueled by her gratitude for Holistic Nutrition and Standard Process’ amazing products, plus her desire to give others the gift of life and good health she has experienced, Kristi earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Holistic Nutrition from Clayton College of Natural Health in Birmingham, Alabama. She’s been practicing Holistic Nutrition for over 11 years in Newport Beach, CA. She is also a graduate of advanced clinical training in nutrition response testing.

Kristi’s main objective is to find the root cause of her clients’ ailments and address them through nutrition and supplements. She applies two techniques:

Applied Kinesiology – a system that evaluates the structural, chemical, and mental aspects of health using manual muscle testing; and
Foundational Evaluating – a physical examination by which a practitioner feels for inflammation and pressure in the body through palpation.

Dr. Maya Nicole Baylac is a Naturopathic Doctor and psychotherapist. She obtained her BA in psychology at the University of Toulouse France in 1964 and her doctorate in naturopathy at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in 2001. She is the founder and medical director of Hawaii Naturopathic Retreat Center, which specializes in detoxification and lifestyle changes for chronic disease reversal and prevention. She has created a unique model of recovery based on detoxification with the FIR sauna, coffee enemas, colon hydrotherapy, juicing, water fasting, raw food diet, supplementation, and IV therapy. Patients are taught to master lifestyle changes through trauma resolution and positive psychology.

Dr. Maya Baylac's  compassionate staff includes experts in EFT, hypnotherapy, the work of Byron Katie, neurolinguistic programming, craniosacral therapy, and massage. "Through self-discovery, I hope to cause a ripple effect in healthcare that spreads positivity and uplifts people to be their best selves."

At age 25 Kimberly Lackey battled a vicious form of cancer. The treatment threw her info menopause. After beating cancer she suffered a mysterious illness that left her temporarily crippled. And if things weren't bad enough, she then went through a divorce.

All of this did not break her spirit. It only fueled her passion and desire for healing and personal growth. Her attitude and mindset are what saved her.

Kimberly Lackey went on to become a health and life coach! She gained her health back and participated in marathons.

In our interview, Kim shares her story and the mindset it takes to overcome what life throws at us.

"Improving health isn't a one size fits all solution. There are many reasons why we veer off of our personal paths but it should never be viewed as a roadblock; it’s simply a detour to get back on the right path towards your life purpose. Three important topics Ryan discusses in our interview:

1. Figure out your "why" and write it down - Be clear about what you want so you're not wasting time and revisit your why (the reason you're really doing this) often to help keep you going.

2. Focus more on awareness - Simplify your workouts to focus only on a few major movements. That will allow you to spend more time with each move and bring better awareness to those skills. Better awareness means greater improvement.

3. Assess your strength, flexibility, and control - Pick one of those areas and work on improving it. After you've achieved your goal in that area move on to the next one.

If my guest's alphabet soup after his name doesn't impress you, I don't know what will! Today, Dr. Robert G. Silverman, DC, DACBN, DCBCN, MS, CCN, CNS, CSCS, CIISN, CKTP, CES, HKC, SASTM is here to teach us how we can throw away pain medications, how we can heal our gut, how we can cleanse our liver and support our body in removing toxins so we can live a healthy, happy and pain-free life!

One of the benefits of cleansing the liver is weight loss becomes very easy for the body to perform.  A major benefit to healing the gut is gaining mental clarity and happiness as there is a direct link between the health of the gut and depression and mental fog!

Dr. Silverman graduated magna cum laude from the University of Bridgeport College of Chiropractic and has a Masters of Science in human nutrition.

His extensive list of educational accomplishments includes designations as a certified nutrition specialist, certified clinical nutritionist, certified strength and conditioning specialist, certified Kinesio® taping practitioner, NASM-certified corrective exercise specialist, and a certified sports nutritionist from the International Society of Sports Nutrition.

Dr. Silverman is a diplomate from the American Clinical Board of Nutrition and a diplomate from the Chiropractic Board of Clinical Nutrition. Dr. Silverman is also a HardStyle Kettlebell Certified instructor.

He has a full-time private practice in White Plains, NY, where he specializes in the treatment of joint pain with innovative, science-based, nonsurgical approaches and functional nutrition.

He has published articles in Dynamic Chiropractic, JACA, ACA News, Chiropractic Economics, The Original Internist, and Holistic Primary Care. Dr. Silverman is also on the advisory board for the Functional Medicine University.

Dr. Silverman is also on the advisory board for the Functional Medicine University, a health contributor to Fox News Radio and has appeared on Fox & Friends, Fox News, NBC News, CBS News, The Wall Street Journal Live, NewsMax TV, and Westchester’s Channel 12 as a health expert. Dr. Silverman also appeared on Talks at Google.

Dr. Silverman was awarded the prestigious 2015 Sports Chiropractor of the Year by the ACA Sports Council.

Dr. Silverman approach to medicine is to help you understand the "root cause resolution" to treating the system, not the symptom. MDs treat symptoms with drugs, holistic doctors treat the root cause by helping the body heal the system that is causing the symptoms.

In our interview Dr. Silverman discusses how proper gut health can help avoid:
a) auto-immune problems

Three additional keys to health are:
1) No more sugar: Average American now consumes 152 lb/yr of sugar and children consume 34 tsp/day. High fructose corn syrup is the biggest source of calories in our diet. Sugar is a toxin and is deleterious to our health.

2) Stand- Not sit: Sitting is the new smoking. Worldwide people sit approximately 30% of their day, look at technology 41% of the time, and exercise .69% of the day. Let's stand and get moving.

3) Avoid artificial sweeteners, coloring, emulsifiers in your foods: All have negative health effects - artificial sweeteners, coloring, and emulsifiers negatively affect your gut health and blood sugar regulation.
